SPOKE’s much anticipated 3rd CD.

In this album, breaking from the previous two albums’ focus on original compositions, the band went into the studio to make an album of songs they had been performing for years but never recorded, drawing from pop (Rufus/Chaka Khan, Beatles) jazz (Charles Mingus, Miles Davis) and Brazilian music (Milton Nascimento). All About Jazz, in its review of the album, describes the band as “adding depth and dimension to music we’ve known forever. The originals—funky and brief (“Ranthem”), zesty and flavorful (“The Shanghai Salsa”), and multi-themed, with chorale-like bookends sandwiching something with a bit more kick (“Shepherd”)—fit in perfectly with the rest of the material.” (All About Jazz 2014 review, Dan Bilawsky)
